No long ting. Here's a taster for DJ IQ's Flashing Lights mixtape, dropping on November 30th. Bere exclusives, heavy cuts, the sickest beats and so on, and so forth. This is gonna be ridiculous...

Heavy Rhyme Experience

Released at the height of the Acid Jazz explosion back in 1992 (OK, so the actual 'scene' was probably way over by then), I seem to remember this album getting a bit slated at the time. A jazz/funk meets hip hop project seemed a fresh idea back then, but it no doubt fell between the gap and appealed to fans of neither (although Guru's Jazzmatazz album a year later seemed to be better received).
It's obviously dated somewhat, but the cuts featuring Main Source, Big Daddy Kane and The Pharcyde still hold their own and take me back to bumping this on my cassette walkman on the way to school. Now where's my turtle neck sweater...

Major Lazer - Keep It Going Louder
Major Lazer "Keep it Going Louder" from Eric Wareheim on Vimeo.
This is my least favourite track off the Major Lazer "Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do" album, by far.. (Aaiite, it's wack as kcuf..)
This of course inevitably means, that it gets released as a single.
That said, this video is off the heezy, as have been all the clips from the album so far.
Featuring Nina Sky & Ricky Blaze on vocals, this video is directed by Eric Wareheim and is like a cross between Progressive Psychodelia, Bubblegum Pop, Aphex Twin & Lazytown. It's frickin' mental. 'Ave a looksie...

Buttercup
You know the floodgates are about to burst wide open with bere previously unreleased Michael Jackson material. However, if this track is anything to go by, this is no bad thing. Taking from the forthcoming 'Want You Back! (Unreleased Masters)' album comes this gem, produced by none other than a Mr. Stevie Wonder back in 1974. If the rest of the material being unleashed from the MJ vaults is anyway near as quality as this, we should have some real treats to look forward to. This, right here, is a groove. Check it...

They Reminisce Over You
Super producer DJ Pete Rock & Carmel City's MC CL Smooth are, without a doubt, one of the greatest Hip Hop double acts, ever. They've only collaborated on a grand total of two albums & one EP (all stone cold classics) & had a notoriously fiery relationship for many years. That said, hearing they were to reunite for a show in London was too tempting an opportunity to miss. Proving the skeptics wrong by actually sticking to their word, the Money Earnin' Mount Vernon duo took to the stage last night (9th Nov '09) at the Relentless Garage in London, and absolutely smashed it. Despite their obviously dubious chemistry, and a few forgotten lyrics, they tore through classic after classic, culminating in easily one of the best Hip Hop tracks of all time ("T.R.O.Y."), pleasing many a Tru Skool / Golden Era Head muchly, including my damn self. Props also to our very own DJ Shepdog for providing a heavyweight warm-up set. Here is a small taste of the show. Feel the Funk, baybeeeeeeeeeeee....

Spread More Love

Something I had the idea for years ago, but somehow never got round to doing it. Anyway, long train journeys can be great for creative impetus when you've got your laptop with you, so I got busy just a few weeks back. Basically a reworking of the classic "Spread Love" by the 45 King, taking the original sample source and spreading it around a bit more whilst retaining elements of the original. Kind of a backwards re-edit if that makes sense?
