Stussy x J Dilla Documentary - Parts 1 & 2

In tradition we still celebrate the life of Mr James Yancey...

Celebrating the life of the late James Yancey, better known to most as J Dilla, Stussy created a special documentary on the life of the brilliant Hip-Hop producer and MC. Along with the celebrations, Stussy also looks to launch a commemorative tee, produced in conjunction with Stones Throw Records and the Dilla Estate. For the release, Stussy is holding “Dilla Day” events at some of their North American stores, with further details available at Stussy.com.

Expect the documentary’s final part – entitled “Donuts” – to be released next wednesday.

MAIN SQUEEZE BREAK PACK - N.O.R.E

This weeks offering comes from 'Melvin Flint The Hustler' - Noreaga.
One of my personal favourite tunes from him.... and also The Mighty Reverend Al Green blesses us with this beautiful music that was the used hook for Married To Marijuana..

If U ever get the chance to see Al Green live.. Indulge yourself.. On a stage, In a Field, In an arena. He still sounds just like the CD. Ridiculous.

Perfect Love Song

Ok. I'm gonna hold down my cynicism about Valentines Day, and just share a bit of love instead.

Lynden David Hall RIP.

Out very soon on BBE is this, the first single from Ty's Fourth album 'Special Kind Of Fool', due for release late April/May, complete with remixes from 2000 Black, Daz-I-Kue & Waajeed.

I posted the first line of this on my facebook page yesterday, and the man himself kindly dropped the full lyrics on there soon afterwards.

Absolutely 2000% Love this. Emotions run deep...

Hip Hop Karaoke heads, this one's for you:

(VERSE ONE)

I FEEL A VIBE WHEN I HEAR A GOOD SONG, FEEL ALIVE AND IT HELPS ME CARRY ON WITH THE MUNDANE….
SYSTEM OF 9 TO 5 LIVING, SNAKE BITTEN BY THE TRUTH, PITCH BLACK UNTIL THE SUN CAME….
OUT FOR A DAY OR TWO TRYING TO COOL YOU DOWN, NOW WATCH HOW HOW I SPRAY AT YOU, NOT TRYING TO PLAY WITH YOU, ROCK AMADEUS YOU LOT NEED TO UNDERSTAND I’M TRYING TO BREAK THE LOCK BUT NOT PLAY THE FOOL..
EVERYBODY DON’T LOVE THE SUNSHINE AND MAMA DON’T LOVE THE GUNCRIME SO BLAME IT ON LITTLE OLD ME, DESTINED TO HOLD A ROOM WITH NO KEY..
GOING LOOPY LOO IF I DON’T TAKE STEPS TO GET OUT MY ZOO COS MY NOW WONT MAKE DO AND MY THEN IS NOT WHAT I WOULD RECOMMEND AS HOT STILL I WANA BUBBLE TILL WE BREAK THRU

(CHORUS)
IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW OF MY (EMOTIONS EMOTIONS EMOTIONS)
IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW OF YOURS (EMOTIONS EMOTIONS EMOTIONS)
IT MIGHT TAKE OF FEW OF HIS (EMOTIONS EMOTIONS EMOTIONS)
IT MIGHT TAKE A FEW OF HERS (EMOTIONS EMOTIONS EMOTIONS)

(VERSE TWO)
LEGENDARY FROM BIRTH TO THE CEMETERY, I CAN PRETEND TO BE MERRY BUT THAT’S NOT HOW I FEEL
MANCHILD NENEH CHERRY AND I’M FEELING AWAY BRIGHT LIGHT BIG CITY PUT YOUR FEELINGS AWAY, KEEP IT ZIP LOCKED
RUNNING ON THE SPOT, LOVING HOW I DID IT DID IT AND DO IT LOTS AND LOTS, LEAVING PAINTSPOTS PROBABLY NEED A MOP
SOMETIMES I KEEP IT SIMPLE, SOMETIMES I’M REALLY NOT INCLINED TO COON FOR A LIVING
NOT MINE AND THAT’S HOW I’M LIVING NOW CLAP FOR THE SUNRISE IF YOU REALLY WANNIT
I’M BOUND TO KEEP YOU TONGUE TIED IF YOUR REALLY ON IT
IF YOU'RE NOT I UNDERSTAND COS MY NAMES NOT ALICE AND THIS SURE ISNT WONDERLAND BUT ITS DEFINITELY UNDERHAND SO EXCUSE IF WE DON’T TALK MUCH

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(VERSE THREE)
I’M NOT BRINGING SEXY BACK, RAPS FIZZY LIKE PEPSI MAX SO LET ME GO
I BROKE FREE OF THE HARNESS I’M PREPARED TO GIVE IT TO YOU, REGARDLESS OF THE STATUS QUO,
SO IF YOU WANNA ACT LIKE CHIMPS IN A ZOO, I GOT THINGS TO DO, PLUS PEOPLE TO SEE, THINGS TO CHANGE SO NO I’M NOT GASSED BY PEOPLE SCREAMING MY NAME
FOR THE RECORD SPINNING TY AIN'T CHANGED, BUT THE LOVE AFFAIR WITH RAP IS ESTRANGED
SOMEBODY BETTER COME UP WITH SOME FRESHER IDEAS COS TOGETHER WE’RE DYING FROM COLLECTIVE DIARHOEA
SOMEBODY DOUSED THE FLAME ITS LIKE WE’RE SCREAMING FIRE BUT THE TRUCK NEVER CAME
THIS MUSIC USED TO REFLECT THE JOY AND THE PAIN BUT NOW WE’RE JUST SOME PETS, A CORPORATE TOY AND A GAME...

(REPEAT CHORUS)

MAIN SQUEEZE BREAK PACK - ATCQ

This weeks Version Excursion features one of my all-time favourite tracks, from one of my all-time favourite crews.

A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation
> Ronnie Foster - Mystic Brew

This is all about Gordon Edward's killer B-Line frankly.

This would also be a good time to mention that Phife Dawg (aka Muggy Ranks, the one that likes 'em Brown, Yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitian..) is playing at the Jazz Cafe, London on March 18th, with support from Fu Schnickens' MC, Chip Fu.
(Click HERE for more about that.)

If you were lucky enough to witness his partner in Tribe,
Q Tip, last year at the Roundhouse, you'll know that this is
NOT the one to sleep on.

Enjoy the Tribe Vibes y'all!..

Arabian Nights

After a chilled weekend, I decided to order a curry..
Found this Indian Restaurant on Church Street in Stoke Newington called ROYAL INDIA

Dilla Day

Today is James Dewitt Yancey's birthday.

It's become a tradition in the worldwide Hip Hop community to pay homage every year to one of the greatest producers of all time.

Aside from being a part of Slum Village, he created some of the finest Hip Hop music ever made. I won't reel off the names - if you love this Hip Hop shit, you'll know this already.

The following is from the Stones Throw website.

"..The year was 2003. J Dilla and Madlib had just wrapped up their album Champion Sound, recording as Jaylib, with Dilla then still in Detroit and Madlib doing all his work from his bomb shelter studio in Los Angeles. J Rocc - who would later become the third member of Jaylib, on the turntables for each of the shows the guys did together - put together this mixtape of Dilla, Madlib and Jaylib songs, as well as some of their sources, essentially telling the story of this group.."

Cosmogramma

Flying Lotus' third full album is dropping later this year,
this time around featuring collaborations with the likes of
Thom Yorke, Laura Darlington & Ravi Coltrane.

You can check the proposed tracklist HERE, c/o Put Me On It.

In the meantime, here's three unreleased tracks from the good people at Warp. >

My Chick Bad

New new heat, fresh from Nah Right.

Luda never fails to make me smile.
"...Comin' out swinging like Tiger Woods wife..."
Dude got lyrics for days.

And Nicki?... First I was like "Huh?".
Then she just irritated me for a while.
Now?... - think I'm falling in love..

Taken from Luda's forthcoming "Battle Of The Sexes".

Talk To Frank

Funky DL is one of the UK's most slept on Hip Hop talents.
Massive in Japan & such, but fairly parred in Blighty.
This may wake a few heads up to him though.

This appeared a few weeks ago on DL's Myspace blog.
A whole album's worth of material, each joint sampling tracks from Amy Winehouse's killer debut set 'Frank'.

I heart Amy personally (not always the most popular opinion) and a Hackney boy sampling an album by a woman from.. um.. Bow, may not exactly be digging deep, but I reckon this mixtape / album is very very sick indeed.

Here's a taster...

You can DL the whole thing (see what I did there?...) for FREE,
right HERE.

Respect the Architects...

This great video was sent to me today by the strangest woman in fashion. You need not know who she is....But she watching you.

Splitting The Atom

This is the second video to emerge from Massive Attack's Fifth studio album 'Heligoland', which is released next Monday (February 8th).

A remix album by Burial is also said to be in the works.

This track features the vocals of long time collaborator & general legend, Horace Andy.

Moody, spiky, Bristol Bizniss - which is only to be expected.
(Real talk - It was never gonna be a Jump Up Pubstep affair, was it.)

I'm New Here

We posted the video to Gil Scott Heron's new single last week, but today a full stream of the forthcoming album was dropped,
his first in 15 years.
The Revolution may not be televised,
but you can be damn sure it'll be on the internet.

MAIN SQUEEZE BREAK PACK - D.I.T.C

EVERY WEEK from now on for 2010 we are going to post the original break and the tune that was created from it.
The Main Squeeze push for knowledge continues....

U gotta love it when u find the breaks.
Day One - D.I.T.C > Oliver Sain - On the Hill
Both rudeboy tunes. Great for the mixtape blends and still the beats run deep...
