Way way back before he was scoring No1's with Dizzee Rascal, A-Trak or even Duane Harden, Armand Van Helden had his hand in many different musical pots. Obviously his early outings on Strictly Rhythm as the Banji Boys and Sultans Of Swing had been rocking house clubs for years, but very few people know of his hip hop productions. I remember picking up a few releases on AV8 records (which I always thought was his label - AV = Armand Van??) which I used to play the arse out of, but when this album dropped I swarmed to my local record shop to pick up the triple vinyl set. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the album flopped, which is no great suprise seeing as it mainly consists of DJ tools and offers not much else to the casual listener. Sure, a lot of it sounds dated and obviously very simplistic, but there are still a few bombs on there. Peep it...
