I Let My Tape Rock Til My Tape Popped

I'm celebrating my 33rd birthday today and thought it would be good to have a dig through some of my old favourites (especially as I'm DJing at my own old school hip hop party tonight) and came across this beauty. Probably one of the first cassettes I ever wore out, partly because my cousin had recorded NWA's "Straight Out Of Compton" on the other side for me, but this hard hitting classic was just as influential to my impressionable young ears. The beats are hard, rhymes are tight (not to mention rude) and even Ice-T lends his flow to some of the fellow Rhyme Syndicate's debut set. With tracks like "Just Suck" you can imagine how rebellious this album sounded to a 12 year old me. I even love the LL Cool J style wet one "Letter I'll Never Send" if I'm being honest. It shows rappers have feelings too yeah? Anyway, click below, turn up the stereo and lets go waaayyyy back...

Notorious - Donald D

Random Old School Fact: Donald D was an original member of The B-Boys with Afrika Islam & Grandmaster Flash. Wow.
