Classic Material #8 (1994)

Enter Chris Read with next installment of the Classic Material series. This time paying tribute to the hip hop of 1994, a year which for many is best remembered for giving us two of hip hop's most revered debut albums, Nas' Illmatic and Notorious B.I.G's Ready to Die. It was also a golden year for radio and mixtape DJs with tapes from the likes of Funkmaster Flex, Stretch Armstrong, Doo Wop, Ron G and others being a key outlet for the new breed of underground acts as well as established names. Despite tempos generally drifting downward in comparison with previous years and the general sound of the year's output being laidback and largely jazz infused, '94 had its fair share of anthems, Craig Mack's 'Flava In Your Ear', Gang Starr's 'Mass Appeal' and Channel Live's 'Mad Izm' being notable examples. Download link to come when he shares it...

The Classic Material Edition #8 party takes place at the City Arts and Music Project in London on Saturday 18th June with special guest Mr Thing (Extended Players / BBE)

Nasty NaS...

OH Shit!... Something brand new for fans of Queensbridge's finest. We got the 1st street single from NaS‘ forthcoming album Life Is Good. “Nasty” sees the Queensbridge native take verbal chunks out of the headbanger of a beat produced by Salaam Remi. The return of Nasty Nas? Sounds like it. One Love. This tune is rude.

Ready To Light...

We're awfully fond of the man like Skillit here at Main Squeeze.
Awfully.

This vid features cameos from bredrins like Chris P Cuts and DJ MK as well as being part filmed in BobaFatt's home of government employment, Rough Trade East.
This joint recently received nods from DJ Premier when he passed through BBC 1Xtra not so long ago.

It's taken from Skillit's EP "As Seen On TV", and you can download this track HERE.

All together now, HAAAA.. HAAA... HAAAAAA...

The Audible Doctor...

Years back, I'm talking 6 or 7 years ago, I was given this beat by an unamed crazy dude who worked with me in the skate scene. 96Kbps shit mp3. Great. Cheers.  Anyways, this was the time Ms Jackson by Outkast had been on repeat  for months and was in total grate mode for me... However, this remix popped up gave it a fresh new lease of life in my world... made by NYC's Audible Doctor. The remix features on an Outkast remix album and i'm happy it has come back full circle to my turntables...

When I Look At You Now...

Here's a lil' Dubstep Hip Hop mash up for y'all.. I put this together at 3am, after a bleak hungover rainy Sunday.
(* This version is a re-up I did on Tuesday evening. Lil' cleaner, lil' fresher.. *)

Emalkay's monster from a year or so ago "When I Look At You"
atop the recent Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne banger
"Look At Me Now".

Yes, Chris Brown is a smug wife beating bell-end (in my opinion).
Yes, Lil Wayne does just talk about how much money he's got
(in my opinion).
But Busta?... BEAST. In everyone's opinion. Always has been. Always will be.
Best Busta verse for a while on this one too.

Anyways, 320 mp3 download is HERE should you want this for your iPod or your Serato set. Watch the ride & enjoy!...
Bobby.

Coming. Soon.

Max 100 Project

Being an addict for kicks as you may well know. Anything sneaker related usually is good for a posting from me... I came across this yesterday and loved the concept. Charlotte-based illustrator Matt Stevens has recently begun a 60-day project to help raise funds for the production and publication of his new book, MAX100. The idea originally started when one day Stevens decided to sketch what he believed was the perfect Air Max sneaker. However, not content with that one single drawing, Stevens began to sketch several custom models per day, resulting in more than 60 visual interpretations of the iconic shoe. Hoping to produce a high-end art book featuring 100 of his original sketches, Stevens has partnered with Kickstarter to accept monetary pledges that will enable him to get his project off the ground while ensuring that donors receive a copy of the first edition. Pledges can be purchased at varying levels and range from a signed slipcase and canvas prints to a live speaking engagement with the artist himself. Visit Kickstarter.com to learn more about the project.

Fastlane

Boston's Edo. G drops his new record entitled "Fastlane." The production was made courtesy of DJ Premier and certainly one of his best beats this year. These two cats are no strangers to each others work as they've dropped beats together in the past, all of which have proven to be classics. Edo's 'A Face in the Crowd' album drops May 17, 2011.
