After I heard the Kanye and Jay-Z 'Otis" track i thought it was real clever but a tad monotonous. Obviously Kanye and Jigga on it make it better to deejay but hey... didn't blow my socks off... then, this popped up... Ishe & Hezekiah have entered the Otis realms.... and a breath of fresh air in regards to its counterpart...

George Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, The Treacherous Three, Salt'n'Pepa and A Tribe Called Quest... Whether its gangster chic or afro-futurism, rappers have always placed an emphasis on style.. Wu Tang have dropped their latest album kinda under the radar... It sounds more like a hash of the RZA's back catalogue... actually its produced by Fizzy Womack of MOP and 2 others i know not the name of. But, dont get it twisted, they are the WU and there are some dope breaks in here still. Below is my personal favourite, Meteor Hammer featuring Tony Starks, Action Bronson (who I may add is a badman) and Termanolgy... Bit of a spitters treat.

As sad as anybody passing away for whatever reason is, it's place in the fickle world of internet blogs is a little uncertain.
I mean, what are music blogs for?.. Just give us some new music, right?..
Be more upfront than everyone else and we'll come back to your page. If someone in this game dies, post up a choice video or track, say rest in peace. Let it be, move on.
It seems different with Amy. She was ours.
She was catapulted to world wide fame initially, not on the strength or her "crazy self-destructive" antics, or her "unpredictable" nature, but off the back of two outstanding albums.
Clever, funny, heartbreaking and truthful, and executed like a perfectionist.
She was one of THE quintessential female voices of the past decade, of a generation even. Her voice literally made peoples jaws drop. She was badass on the guitar. And every word she wrote struck a chord.
I first saw Amy on a late night talk show on Channel 4, doing an acoustic version of "Stronger Than Me". I just remember it blowing me away. I remember spending ages trying to hunt it down - I think it got released a month or two afterwards, which lead on to random appearances on Popworld, Jools Holland and such. The debut album 'Frank' dropped around this time.
'Back To Black' is one of my favourite albums ever made, personally. I could get my pretentious hat on, and talk about how it felt like MY album way before she was a grammy-smashing global phenomenon, but it's not a competition. Real talk for me however, is that this album summarized, capsulated and ended up almost single-handedly became a genuine form of 'therapy' for me for a while, at a very difficult stage of my own life. I breathed and felt damn near every word of it. It kinda saved me, in a way. It's the ultimate break-up album. Everyone has a few of those records in their life. This was one of mine. I can't quite explain why or how, it just came around at the right time, and has it's place in my life forever for that. I always wanted to tell her that.
I've read a lot of other thoughts over the world wide web of opinion over the past day, and got into a hefty debate with real people about this last night.
"Is she really that iconic?" "Will people remember her music, or her dramas?" "Will people still play her music in years to come, or even remember who she was?" "Wasn't she just gonna die anyway?" "How does she rate compared to other "legends" that had supposed troubled souls and went before their time?"...
I don't want to "rank" her. Was she as "important" to the music industry as Michael Jackson? Maybe not - but he had four decades of work. As "important" as the rest of the ill-fated / morbidly titled "27 Club" (Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones).. perhaps - who's to say?..
Someone last night made a vague comparison to Beyonce & said something like, "look at her, she's normal". Like, what the fuck is "normal"?.. Unfortunately where I come from, where WE come from, addiction is also "normal". Sorry.
"Who's to blame and wasn't it inevitable?.." If you've ever been close to anyone with an addiction, you'll know it's not quite as simple as blaming those around her for not helping enough, or even her for not helping herself. It's an illness. And not one that can ever necessarily be "cured". Some handle it better than others. Some not so well. Addicts need help, yes, but the only person in my experience that can truly help an addict, is the addict themselves.
Whether you're homeless or you're a millionaire, as was she, sacking off an addiction is no mean feat.
Most addicts aren't under the public magnifying glass 24/7 either. Nor are they cash cows for a lot of other people.
I would imagine, if you were in your mid 20's, had substance abuse problems, and everyone in the world was watching everything you did, it wouldn't necessarily lessen the pressure to quit. Probably the opposite.
So - blame her, blame her people, blame the media, blame her fans, blame yourself, blame me. It's futile.
She said and did some dodgy things. This makes her no different to anyone I've ever met. It's just the majority of other people I've met don't have millions of people scouring for You Tube videos of them saying/doing the afore mentioned dodgy things.
End of the day, it's just really fucking sad that a talented young woman has died.
If you've ever known someone with a dangerous addiction, you've probably met someone like Amy.
If you're a Londoner, you probably still know someone like Amy - if you'd not actually met Amy herself. I've heard a lot of Amy stories.
I met her once - not much of a story.. she was in a record store I worked in. Despite her towering entourage of security, she came across to me, and my colleagues at the time, as a genuinely nice down-to-earth London girl. Kinda short (without the big hair), bit of a gobshite - and actually quite a nice lady.
After meeting a lot of other "celebrities" and them not being so nice, that reaffirmed that I really quite liked Amy.
I saw her from afar a few times too, at drinkeries such as Cargo & Camden's Jazz Cafe. You couldn't miss that hair. That just added to shattering the legend shrouding her a little, and making her more one of "us".
Potty-mouthed, tortured soul, and above all, a real person.
I hope her music outshines the drama in years to come. I really do.
Above all, that's what I will personally miss, as will British Soul music, and Soul music the world over.
Maybe the unfinished unreleased collaborations with Salaam Remi & Questlove will surface one day.
For now, she leaves behind two perfect albums, that I for one will play forever.
Goodbye Amy. Rest in peace lady x

Yesterday we lost a music great. The troubled, but immensely gifted Amy Winehouse was found dead in her flat in London. It has always been common knowledge that she dabbled in naughtyness but such a shame that it ended on a down note, when we all expected the next album to be some kind of rebirth...
Rest In Peace Miss....
Yesterday we lost possibly the best female vocalist from these shores for the last decade. Inevitable perhaps some may argue, but there's no detracting from the fact it's a proper tragedy none the less. A full tribute here will follow.

Latest installment of this bloody marvelous monthly concept mix series from our boy, Chris Read.
This time around, Classic Material pays tribute to the hip hop of 1995.
In his own words:
The output of '95 arguably typifies what is often referred to as the 'mid 90s sound', with filtered and layered grooves accompanying crisp programmed drums at a tempo generally far lower than in previous years. The general trend for decreasing tempos peaked in '95 with a significant proportion of single releases barely breaking the 90bpm mark.
1995 is also notable for the rise of a darker more melancholy production style with even the darkest of backdrops (Mobb Deep's Shook Ones Part 2 for example) scoring as unlikely club hits. There were of course also a host of more typically upbeat club tracks, Blahzay Blahzay's 'Danger' and ODB's 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya' being good examples.
The next Classic Material party takes place at the City Arts and Music Project in London on Saturday 16th July with special guests Matman and Daredevil (ITF / DMC Champs).
"If you’re not listening to Chris Read’s incredible “Classic Material” series of year-oriented hip-hop mixes, you must hate Hip Hop."
(Oliver Wang, writer for LA Weekly, The Source, XXL and Vibe)

The Mizell brothers worked with some of the greatest jazz acts of the 70's. Including artists such as Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey and Gary Bartz to name a few.....
He and his brother Larry had a wonderful signature sound that can be heard from a mile away, of a few feet, depending on how close to the speakers you are. They have blessed many dancefloor with classic after classic including one of my favourites,
Donald Byrd 'Think Twice'
Later used in another classic.
Main Source 'Looking At The Front Door'
The sad passing of Fonce Mizell will leave a great gap in the world of music.
Thank you for the music.
Here are some of the songs he left us with......
This was co produced by the Mizell brothers and Freddie Perren.
And now the hip hop he influenced....
TWO WORDS. DOOM & STARKS.
There's nothing sweeter than hearing these two on a joint.. Especially a fresh one... yet only a radio rip... It still has that the dirty deep vibe I love so much from when these two collaborate.

The story thus far: from the moment that the young Paul White's craft crash-landed in the jungle, he wanted nothing more than to make a banging Hip Hop album.
From the moment his first beat tape dropped down the chimney of
One Handed Music's corporate HQ, they wanted nothing more than to help him do just that.
'Rapping With Paul White' has been a long time in the making and features some of his favourite MCs over brilliant production.
We're proud to offer you the first single, 'Trust' ft. Guilty Simpson, for nowt.
There's also a free download of bonus track 'The Doldrums', which we believe is the finest example of medieval vocoder beats on the market.
'Rapping With Paul White' is another left turn after last year’s intriguing excursion into prog and psych-rock, 'Paul White & The Purple Brain', and deserves to establish its mastermind as one of the most versatile and individual producers working today (yes, that bit is taken from the press release).
It features Danny Brown, Guilty Simpson, Tranqill, Jehst, Homeboy Sandman, Marv Won, Moe Pope and folk-singer Nancy Elizabeth, along with a fistful of brilliant instrumentals.
Get all the details and full tracklisting on the One Handed Music website.
The album drops on August 21st and you can pre-order it HERE.
