Three:Style

Welcome to Three:Style.

Everyone knows three is the magic number. With that in mind, three DJ's have linked forces to bring you a new night of noises, with a simple concept. Three tracks back-to-back from one prolific artist, then on to the next one, all night long.

DJs Shepdog, BobaFatt & Mo Fingaz will be spinning the sickest selection of Hip Hop, Soul, Reggae, Funk, Disco, House and beyond - no style will be left untouched, except that the style will remain three.

Threedom is a road seldom travelled by the multitude. We're taking it there.

Friday 2nd December. 11pm-3am
Bedroom Bar, 62 Rivington Street, Shoreditch, London. EC2A 3AY
£5 Entry, £3 with flyer

Three your mind, and the rest will follow...

Supa Heath...

This is some smooth shit. Emerging from a 'new era' of where remaking the 'hits' in a band like format is king, incredibly, this beat features NO SAMPLES ... all of the sounds you hear were replayed/reprogrammed masterfully by K-Def.  This version appears on K-Def's upcoming "NIGHT SHIFT" project which will be available in December 2011 on VINYL, CD, CASSETTE & MP3 on Redefinition Records.

This Is Important...

Hospitality

A different post today. As some of you may know we are massive d&B fans here. We both grew up on it just as much as anything else. Main Squeeze are friends with the crew over at Hospital Records. We recently hosted Room Three at their monster Brixton Acameny sell out gig which was a wicked night... The label is home to artists such as High Contrast, London Elektricity, Danny Byrd, Netsky, Logistics, Nu:Tone, Cyantific & MC Wrec but also releases tracks from a whole host of other artists across the D+B genre. Check the video above as Tom Chambers documents the rise and fame of the now household and seminal D&B label. Props to Chris, Tony, Josh, Ricky and all the team at Hospital HQ...

Like Smoke...

‘Me And Mr Jones’ was the only track on ‘Back To Black’ where Winehouse expressed her snotty, ‘Frank’-era sense of humour. The tale of her and rapper Nas’ friendship was told and years later, 'Mr Jones' returns the favour with an appearance on ‘Like Smoke’.

This song features on the 'Lioness : HiddenTreasures' Album that is released on 5th Dec 2011. Unfortunately we only have a low bit rate for the time being due to the tag ridden versions circulating. However we will update as we find higher quality.

Ray Charles

Chiddy Bang have been on the heater for a while now. This comes after their 'Stylo' Remix for Gorillaz. They drop their new offering 'Ray Charles'. Sampling the great man himself this bumps loud and is a hit on the dancefloor. The story goes like this ' “One of the brothers says - He got so high he fell asleep in the studio. WI looked over and he reminded me of Ray Charles, probably because I was high, too. I started freestyling about him and we laid it down right there.”

Introducing Miss Collins...

OK. This is Family Business. Introducing Hannah Collins, A singer/songwriter/producer/rudegirl from our hometown. Bath. South West England. She today, on the 11.11.11, a once in a century moment, drops her debut album 'Different Light'. Hannah has been a singer since I can remember. She was an honorary member of The Heavy for the first spell of their adventure, and toured the US with them, a member of the TC Live show along with TC and MC Jakes, as well as an active session vocalist for a number of people in the music industry. This for Hannah spells the end of a long year of writing, singing and producing her own material... from scratch. No samples. (Props). The sound is sweet and soulful alongside deep and dark. The album takes influence from a large group of genres and to its detriment is a great mix of instrumental and vocal. The production is crisp and clear and it's a pleasure to hear a complete project...

Badu Speaks...

Lecture: Erykah Badu (Madrid 2011) from Red Bull Music Academy on Vimeo.

Erykah Badu needs little introduction. Her seminal works like 'Baduizm' and the 'New AmErykah' series have successively upped the ante in terms of what can be done within the soul spectrum. Erykah fuses cosmic b-girl bravado with the forward-thinking sounds of producers like the Soulquarians, Madlib, and more recently, Academy grad Flying Lotus, to create a sonically varied body of work – selling millions of albums in the process. She also heads up her own record label, Control FreaQ, and has even been caught on the ones and twos recently, under her moniker DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown. Watch her tell the story to Eothen 'Egon' Alapatt at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 in Madrid. The sonstress talks about her big break and her influences through the late J Dilla...

Salute To The Hevster...

Heavy D was the first signing to seminal Hip Hop label, Uptown Records, back in 1987, releasing a bunch of commercially successful albums such as 'Big Tyme' and 'Living Large'.

Hailing from Jamaica, he moved to Money Earnin' Mount Vernon, New York as a child.

Dubbed the overweight lover, he was one of the first rappers to credibly incorporate Reggae and R&B (in the early New Jack Swing years) into his music, Hev even had a UK No 1 with 'Now That We Found Love' featuring Aaron Hall.

Heavy D & The Boyz tragically lost one of their dancers, Trouble T. Roy, in 1990. Their follow up album 'Peaceful Journey' was dedicated to him, as was the Pete Rock & CL Smooth track 'They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)'.
Hev's DJ, Eddie F, is also famously cited as the person to give Pete, Hev's cousin, his first break, by giving him his first sampler.

Hev's legacy ran deep musically, collaborating with Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, B.B. King, Supercat, Frankie Paul, Daddy Freddy, Buju Banton, Soul For Real, Guy, drafting in rappers Kool G Rap, Grand Puba, Q Tip and Big Daddy Kane for his anti-profanity track 'Don't Curse', and appearing in Biggie's 'One More Chance' video, as well as being name dropped in 'Juicy', amongst other things.

In addition to this, he had numerous acting roles in everything from sitcoms 'A Different World' & 'Fresh Prince Of Bel Air', and movies as diverse as 'The Cider House Rules', 'Step Up', 'New Jersey Drive' and a cameo in Eddie Murphy movie 'Tower Heist' this year.

He made his first live TV music performance for 15 years on last months BET Awards and was due to drop his 9th album, 'Love Opus', this year.
