Hell of a week for us at Main Squeeze.
Last night, Mo Fingaz warmed up for The Beatnuts (who are, by the way, completely nuts), at the Jazz Cafe, before they continued the party at Fabric with Chris P Cuts & The Doctors Orders crew.
Meanwhile, I was lucky enough to cop a DVD screener of Ice T's 'Something From Nothing: Art Of Rap' movie (ill), and also checked a viewing of the Tribe Called Quest documentary 'Beats, Rhymes & Life' at Rough Trade East last night too (DVD is out this Monday).
The big one for me though, was hanging with Public Enemy's Chuck D, Flavor Flav & DJ Lord, who did an impromptu Q&A and performance at Rough Trade on Monday. Too many tales from that evening, but anyone that attended will know just how surreal, inspiring & mind-blowing it was. Some shit I certainly won't ever forget.
P.E. running a set through my lil' Serato box was bugged out enough to start with. From then on, it just got crazier. Honoured, blessed, all of that. Shout to the Blag Magazine crew for hooking that up for us.
Which leads me nicely to this. Currently P.E. are riding in the highest position in the UK singles chart than they have in their entire career, with a 5 year old track (also on the 'Art Of Rap' soundtrack), which some bright spark at
Channel 4 adopted as the theme tune for the London Paralympics, which of course started this week.
Presently No.3 in iTunes songs chart, 'Harder Than You Think' is potentially P.E.'s first No.1 single ever. The fact this kinda came from nowhere, this shit has always been unthinkable, so this makes me happy.
A number one with an element of substance & meaning, from a real Hip Hop group that inspired a generation.. Is this possible?.... Do the right thing.....

Shout to Chuck D, DJ Lord, Flav, Psycho Les, JuJu, Jazz Cafe, Vagabonds, Kombine, Rough Trade East, Sarah & Sally at Blag, Noomi Rapace, Mr Thing, DJ LoK, Sri, Francis@G Shock, Jehst, Smitharene, Chris P Cuts, Fae Simon, Shernay, Holly & Cherelle, and everyone else we collectively bumped fists with this week. Such a dope week.
