The Nextmen Episode 16
Straight from the horses mouth...
"Nextmen Podcast 16: Bringing the party to wherever you are. There's been some talk, ok only one FB gibbering but our ears are always wide open & we like to listen. We'd like to address the question involved in a more philosophical way. Why aren't our podcasts more like our mixed tapes, like the seemingly well liked Personal Golf Instructions or Children's Introduction To Jazz? To answer the question with a question, what is better, a pineapple or a banana? Both are sweet, equally weird & hilarious, can make you feel good, can be carried round with you in some sort of pocket or sling device & are delicious to rock. They're different things. We're happy that some folks think our mixtapes are classics & we will probably keep making them til we're deafer than Dixie (we get we're long overdue!), but the idea of the podcast was never a Nextmen mix, it was us selecting new, underrepresented & personally beloved tunes that could be heard in a full format, strung together purely by mood or feeling & the connection one track has to the next, irrespective of venue or timeslot or preferred party BPMs & without either track having to eat into each other or be blended for the sake of style. So not like our mixtapes, not like our DJ sets. No quick'n'themix tricks & skills on show - not even back announcing, just a tracklist you can read and a quick hi & bye so you know we still care that you're listening & we hope, a boss selection of tunes that can be appreciated as that. I guess we also figure, sometimes everyone needs an hour just for themselves & some tunes - on the train to work, in the car on commute, cooking Tuesday dinner, in the tub, downtime on the oil rig (Hi Jim!), having some solo booze time, whatever. These podcasts are meant to be like little gifts of time for you. And they're free, so snap. This month's starts with a roll of slow burners but ends up feeling like you're inside the sun. Pack a cold towel for the burning heat. Enjoy!"

Roll It. Light It...
Rap veterans Cypress Hill have teamed up with dubstep’s premier cockney thug, Rusko, for a five-track collaborative EP.
Titled simply Cypress X Rusko, the EP was recorded over a six month period in the States. In the words of Cypress Hill’s B-Real, “We’ve always been the type of group to take chances on doing something radically different than what people expect from us. So this carries with the tradition of us going out of the box. “If it’s not something that we embrace then we don’t dare mess with it and this is something we fell right into the pocket of.”

West cost hero MED has an impressive stable of producers behind him. Having made his debut with Madlib produced Lootpack he has blessed beats from J-Dilla, Just Blaze and Oh No. It is little wonder considering the man’s stunning breathe control and his no holds barred wordplay. His latest full length album ‘Classic’ (Stones Throw) is just that, a bonafide underground classic.
Black Milk is one of the most prolific producers in the game right now. With a sounds that is distinctly his own and distinctly Detroit at the same time he joins us tonight for a very rare DJ set. Having blown up stages for The Doctor’s Orders performing solo and as one third of Random Axe we are really excited to welcome him behind the decks tonight for a set not only of his own productions but a selection of the tunes that have inspired him over the years.
This opportunity to see and hear these two rock a London stage together is not to be missed and if their presence was not enough for you then London’s own Piff Gang will be getting the stage warmed up with his witty takes on life in the capital while Spin Doctor & Chris P Cuts set the mood on the decks.

State of The Union...
"Chicago’s & Kids In The Hall's Naledge and Grand Rapids’ Willie The Kid have been toying with the idea of recording an EP together for some time now. Well yesterday it became a reality, as the twosome hit Soundscape Studios to break ground on their yet-to-be-titled album. “State Of The Union” is the first to come from these sessions. No word on where or when this is going to drop, but it’s going to be a reality–the chemistry is evident.

Stayin Busy
This joint actually dropped in July of 2011 so essentially isnt that new, However I totally missed it and have just downloaded it today. A wicked number from the US's Audible Doctor. With recently featured Rasheed Chappell amongst others this is a dope lil bubbler. If you listen carefully, I think it samples the piano from 'Limit To You Love' by James Blake..

The Last Skeptik Mix
The Last Skeptik blesses Beatnik with this exclusive mix. Blending all the best bits of hip hop, funk and soul we tend to represent his selection choice couldn't be more supreme. Add to that the mix is taken all exclusively from vinyl, not a Serato in sight, it makes the goodness extra special.
With his dedication to old and new, we have come to love Skeptik over the years for the music he represents. And now with two pending albums dropping in 2012 we're expecting big things from him this year. We've also been told there's a super special announcement concerning those projects too, but mums the word for now.

Here's to hoping 2012 brings some more gems. From thing's I've already heard..Sheeeeeeeets gonna be crazy!!!!

Doomed...
Teddy Music's 'Doomed', featuring Dirtee Stank's
Newham Generals, is the first offering from his upcoming release 'Grime: The Compilation'.
Featuring 22-tracks from the Teddy Music back catalogue as well as four exclusive tracks with Tempa T, Trim and Dot Rotten - it's a snapshot of the producers biggest and most influential hits to date.
Directed by Daniel Alexander, 'Doomed' sees the Newham Generals in their lyrical element over a rugged Teddy Music production with his signature low-end basslines and marching drum beat. The video manages to capture the raw nature of the lyrics and production of 'Doomed' and is the perfect teaser for what else is to come from the compilation.
'Grime: The Compilation' is released 30th January.

Break Loose...
'Break Loose' is a throwback to the era which influenced the spirit behind Rasheed Chappell's album 'Future Before Nostalgia'. An homage to Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and those that came before him, Rasheed is on true B-Boy form, as Kenny Dope provides him with a track that reflects the past while infused with the future.
DJ Scratch (EPMD) once again shows the world why the late-great Jason Mizzel crowned him a "Jam Master" for this era. This song serves as a bridge between era's and as a nod to the founders that the culture will be preserved. Peep.
Definition Of Classic...

Talking At Me is where resident DJ Rita Maia invites DJs and live acts from across the globe to present the best of the current underground dance music scenes - the finest filtered breaks, bass beats, UK funky and an eclectic mix of new club music every month.
Rime is a collaboration between Finnish producer-composer and saxophone player Antti Hynninen and Finnish-Egyptian vocalist Sara Sayed. Antti and Sara have managed to combine electronic soul music, deep lyrics and rough beats in a unique and fresh way, with influences from jazz, hip hop and broken beat.
Their debut album 'Our Kingdom' was released early last year on the German label Infracom - and the reception has been nothing but positive! Rime has since expanded into an excellent live band.
Bobafatt swings by to play a special guest DJ set. The promoter of Main Squeeze and Stone Gruve Social is also the Dance Music Buyer for Rough Trade Shops, so he sure knows his electronic funk and forward-thinking beats. He's also been the resident DJ for Nice Up! Soundcrash and warmed up for everyone from Jazzy Jeff and KRS One to Tinariwen and Chase & Status. Oh, and he's been DJing at parties for 20 years and was the BBC 1Xtra M1x It Up Champion in 2006, so turntablism is second nature.

Rita Maia hosts the Saturday night electronic music show 'Sine of the Times' on the award-winning London Resonance FM, which for the third time won Best London Radio Station on the Radio Academy 2011 Nations and Regions Award.
As one of the founders of the pioneering Portuguese Badmood Collective, she just launched a new label for their 10th anniversary and still finds time to hold a night in Lisbon, at one of the clubs with the most interesting program in town, Music Box. Her unique style takes her to events across the world.
With bookings at festivals around Europe, 2012 is shaping to be a very good year indeed for this talented and relentless DJ.

Raw Celebration...
Not one, but TWO new videos from Common, from his new album 'The Dreamer / The Believer'.
Jury's still out on this album. Myself and Mo both felt the same way - loved it when we first heard it. Few plays in, not as keen. Seems a bit disjointed.
Maybe it's a grower.. even though we loved it when we first heard it.
I dunno.. It's a weird one.. Anyway, both these joints are nice.
The first one particularly.

Hello...
Can't front, don't know too much about this, it just landed on my Facebook c/oTim Poynter, a DJ of my generation from my hometown Blazingsmoke. He used to do jams at a bar called Magnums, called Sucka after I left B Smoke, and one of these dudes, Glad2Mecha & Ill Treats, used to spin at it also.
Guests on this piece include Rasco, Moka Only, Cadence & Sinuous.
This is some propah jazz-nod boom bap shit. And you know we likes that.

A slide west from hip hop for a minute, but for good reason. Pixelated People is the new single from the ever talented Miss Jess Mills. Recently signed to Island Records, she is working on her album as we speak... This new joint, produced my Sam Frank captures that baltimore meets breaks tip with the ever present 'Think' break thrown in there for good measure, which in my opinion is always a winner. As standard, her deep sultry voice, makes the beats feel warm and cosy. Ya Gets..
Props Jess. keep going....
