Blue Widow (Video)

New video for 'Blue Widow' by Elzhi

The Nextmen Podcast EP 21

We are a nation of many things – amazing music, beautiful countryside, relative anonymity, delicious produce, generous sized drinking vessels, pretty immediate access to art/kicks/other culture – but what we're not is a nation able to remain clothed when the sun presents itself. Thankfully we're not going release a 2013 naked calendar, instead we've cooked up a new Podcast.. With bangers from Nas, Oddisee, Maya Jane Coles and Jess Mills this should be more fun than looking at our naked mutant bodies. Phew!

Brooklyn Hip Hop Fest 2012

I usually avoid posting up sketchy gig footage on here, just 'cos of the quality mainly, but this one's a bit special..

Busta Rhymes enlisting the help on stage from M.O.P, Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun, Slick Rick, Phife & Q Tip from Tribe Called Quest AND a 20 year reunion for Busta's original crew, Leaders Of The New School.

Ridiculous.

Salute to Bob Babbitt

Thank you for the basslines.
RIP x

Wu Tang Clan Lecture

Arriving in the midst of what a young Shawn Carter once characterized as "too much West Coast dick-licking," Wu-Tang's '36 Chambers' was the Eastside story many had hoped for: proof that New York rap artists could still commercially compete with their chronic-puffing counterparts from the land of the locs. A nine-man crew of hungrier-than-thou rhyme renegades and cast-offs. Jarringly grimy production informed by old school Times Square kung fu flicks. And a genius masterplan that no boyband designer could've ever come up with. The foundation was laid for a hip hop subgenre/industry unto itself. A new world. A Wu world. Or to quote the Chef Raekwon: "The Wu got somethin’ that I know that everybody wanna hear. ’Cause I know I been waiting to hear it." Hear them in conversation with journalist/author, Alvin 'Aqua Boogie' Blanco.

1 Hour and Twelve of Wu to watch.

Joey Bada$$ - 1999

Granted we are a lil late on this dude compared to some other blogs as somehow he totally slipped under the radar. HOWEVER. Im glad i did eventually get to hear it. For me, this came out of nowhere. Having never heard of this dude, i was urged to listen up. I was not disappointed! Joey Bada$$, hails from Brooklyn and with a wave of new emerging young rappers such as A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator etc etc, Bada$$ hops straight to the front of the line with his clean "90's" golden era sound shinging through.... With beats from J Dilla, MF Doom, Lord Finesse & Lewis Parker to name a few... This whole project is ILL... So glad I listened.

THE THREE BIGGEST REGGAE CREWS IN LONDON UNITE FOR ANOTHER REGGAE ROAST JAMDOWN SPECTACULAR

This night will demonstrates the rich heritage of the UK roots scene with the three biggest reggae crews in london joining forces to bring you an unforgettable night of positive vibrations and high energy bass lines.

Add to that one of the UK’s best new Digi-Dub producers, Adam Prescott + Daddy Nature from Rompa's reggae Shack - one of London'd best up and coming reggae nights + the vocal talents of Ramon Judah and Clapper priest and you are in for one hell of a night... Get ready to skank London!

The Reggae Roast Jamdown sessions are famous for showcasing the best dubwise acts from across the globe at Plan B, arguably South london’s best venue. Classic Material #15 (Part 1)

When they released Classic Material Edition #14 at the conclusion of their events series last year the Classic Material crew said it would be the last in the series. It turns out they have told some porky pies....

With the release of a new t-shirt range in partnership with London sneaker boutique Foot Patrol and renowned street style photographer Normski fast approaching, DJ's Chris Read & Nickname thought it would be a nice idea to bring back the mix series for one final edition.

Edition #15 brings things more or less up to date with a two part mix. Part 1, featured here, covers the years 2001 to 2005. Those of you who follow CM mixes closely will realise that Part 1 is not an entirely new mix, but a reworking of parts of the much hyped Diary mixtape.. Part 2, will be a new mix.... 2006 onwards...
